Butte Montana

A Landscape as Alluring as the Wealth Beneath it!

Copper and other metals brought thousands to Butte, but today the surrounding rivers, lakes and ranges have every bit as much allure. From Butte, you're a short drive from hiking the Highland Mountains, fishing the Big Hole River, boating Georgetown Lake, skiing Discovery Basin or golfing the Jack Nicklaus-designed Old Works course, the Butte Country Club Course (which welcomes visitors) and Fairmont Hot Springs Resort's Golf Course.

There's lots of opportunity for scenic drives, landscape photography, picnicking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing and more. So bring your gear of choice, your camera and plenty of film.

Terrific Day Trips!

Butte is at the center of great drives through wonderful country. Head south on I-15, turn at Divide, drive along the Big Hole River, go through the old ranching towns of Wisdom and Jackson to Bannack, where gold drew men to the Montana Territory in 1863. Bannack State Park preserves many of the original buildings.

Or, at Wisdom, head for the Big Hole Battlefield with its fine interpretive center and easy walk to see where the cavalry fired on Chief Joseph's band. Or head east to the Lewis & Clark caverns. Go west through Anaconda to Philipsburg to see restored Victorian buildings.
