Gardiner River
The Gardiner River, which shares its name with a small town in Montana, is one of the premier fly-fishing rivers in the United States. The river begins in the mountains to the West of Mammoth Hot Springs, at Joseph Peak. It then flows by Mammoth and heads North to the town of Garndiner, where it exits the park. Between Mammoth and Gardiner is considered the best fishing of the river, and a hiking trail runs alongside it in that area.
Floating within the Park is prohibited, but is allowed as soon as the river exits at Gardiner.
