Lamar River
Beginning high in the Absaroka-Beartooth wilderness, the Lamar River is one of Yellowstone's greatest and most beautiful rivers.
Flowing through the equally beautiful Lamar valley, the river provides one of the best fishing opprotunities in the Park.
Due to the fact that the Lamar River is primarily supplied by the runoff of mountain snows, it's not uncommon for it to remain high and murky in July, well past the time other rivers are clear. The Fish in the Lamar river are remarkable, such as Rainbow trout averaging 12 inches in length. It's not unusual to catch a 16 inch fish on the river.
Access to the river is very simple. Just park your vehicle on the road an walk the 100-200 yards across the gorgeous Lamar Valley floor until you reach the river.
