Bechler River in Yellowstone National Park

Bechler River

map button weather yellow pages print

The Bechler River is most renown for its many waterfalls. The area is even called "Cascade Corner" due the the abundance of the falls. Take a hike along the Bechler River Trail and you can see 12 waterfalls along the trail with eight more withing easy bushwacking distance.

The Bechler River area is unique in Yellowstone. Because of the many rivers and large amount of rainfall, the area is much wetter than others. Unlike most other places, which are mostly covered in lodgepole pines, the Bechler River area has many large open medows. Unfortunatly, these medows tend to be bogs, even during the dry season of August.

As you hike up the river, keep in mind that to get to the headwaters, you are forced to ford the stream twice. The water can be quite deep at times, and caution is advised. If you don't think you can make it across, it's better not to try and to find a different route.

No matter where you choose to explore in the Bechler River area, you can expect to see nature at its finest. The wild and untamed land is accented by the contant view of the Teton Mountains. The majestic beauty of the waterfalls is only matched by the glorious sunsets. You'll never regret a hiking trip into the Bechler River Area.
