Park Fees & Permits
-
Essentials //
All visitors to Yellowstone National Park are required to pay an entrance fee upon entry to the park. Depending on the type of pass purchased, visitors can typically visit the park for up to seven days. Other fees and permits include camping fees, fishing licences, and backcountry camping permits.
Entrance Fees:
These fees include entrance to both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.
- Private Vehicles and RVs: $25 per vehicle ($20 for a snowmobile or motorcycle) (good for 7 days)
- Pedestrian on foot or bicycle or on skis: $12 per person (for those 16 and older) (good for 7 days)
- Annual Pass: $50 (for pass holder and passengers in a single vehicle)
- Senior Pass: $10 (for those 62 and older for lifetime)
Backcountry Permits:
A Backcountry Use Permit is required for overnight backcountry trips in Yellowstone. They are free of charge and available at ranger stations and visitor centers. For the best information, try to get your permit from the ranger station or visitor center closest to where you begin your trip. Permits are available in person no more than 48 hours in advance of your departure. Camping is permitted in designated sites only. All sites have group size limits which must be followed. Some sites are "no wood fire" sites.
During the summer season, Backcountry Use Permits are available seven days a week between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm at most ranger stations. To obtain a backcountry use permit during the Spring, Fall and Winter seasons, call the park at: 307-344-7381.
Fishing Permits:
All anglers, age 16 or over, must possess a Yellowstone National Park Fishing Permit. Here are the fishing permit options:
- $15 three-day permit, or
- $20 seven-day permit, or
- $35 season permit
If anglers are 15 years or younger, they have two options: 1) Obtain a free permit that is signed by a responsible adult; 2) Fish without a permit if they are under direct supervision of an adult who has a valid fishing permit.
Fishing permits can be purchased at visitor centers, ranger stations and general stores within the park.
